| Marijuana is one of the most common drugs on the street today and is often perceived too lightly. Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. Street names include pot, herb, weed, grass, Mary Jane, or gangster. Domestic (homegrown) Marijuana is usually grown in patches of 20 plants or less. Marijuana, grown outdoors traditionally, is very easy to spot from aircraft. Due to airborne eradication efforts by law enforcement, many marijuana growers have begun to grow their marijuana indoors in order to evade detection by police and to control the environment. Through a controlled environment, marijuana can be produced with much higher potency. Usually, marijuana growers seek to not allow female plants to become pollinated. The nonpollinated female plant produces much higher levels of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC, the active ingredient in marijuana that produces the high. Besides THC, marijuana contains over 400 other chemicals. Although some claim that smoking marijuana is suitable for medical use, do not be misled. The American Medical Association, American Cancer Society and American Ophthalmology Society disagree. Medical research has continually shown that marijuana weakens the immune system, impairs judgment and short-term memory, reduces the ability to concentrate, diminishes motor control functions and significantly reduces the IQs of newborns. Long term medical complications associated with marijuana use include cancers, respiratory, immune system and reproductive problems. Some frequent, heavy users of marijuana develop a tolerance. "Tolerance" means that the user needs larger or more potent doses of the drug to achieve the same effect. |

Diethylamide or LSD is most commonly called "acid" on the
street. Hallucinogens alter a person's perception of reality.
LSD is a colorless, odorless liquid. LSD looks like anything that will absorb a colorless, odorless liquid. LSD is usually sold on blotter paper ("blotter acid"), thin squares of sugar, gelatin ("window panes"), sugar cubes, stickers and tablets. LSD usually costs an average of $3.00 per dosage unit, which is called a "hit." A hit ranges from approximately 30 to 50 micrograms with effects lasting up to 12 hours. |

| PCP - Phencyclidine | ||
| PCP is seen on the street in both powder and liquid form. In powder form it is commonly referred to as "angel dust," and in liquid form it is often called "rocket fuel." PCP is the drug most likely to cause a person to behave in a violent fashion. Anxiety, a feeling of impending doom, paranoia, and violent hostility may occur when a person takes PCP. Encountering a person who has recently ingested PCP presents a serious safety hazard. | ||
| Psilocybin ("Magic Mushrooms") | ||
| Psilocybin mushrooms have been used for centuries in Indian rites. Psilocybin mushrooms can be taken orally, but have a bitter taste. In many cases, magic mushrooms are boiled in water, the water is in some way flavored, and then drank in a concoction called "tea." Street prices range from $60.00 to $200.00 an ounce. An average dose is about two grams and the high lasts about seven hours. |
